Spyder: Transfer Jacket

While hardcore gear gurus might think that the Spyder Transfer is the freeride equivalent of the popular Rival jacket with zip-off sleeves, the Transfer is actually a completely different design. It has distinct (and more breathable) waterproof fabrics, lighter synthetic insulation, an array of different internal features and a full-time hood that doesn't tuck away. The weatherproof Transfer Jacket is part of Spyder's new Freeryde Venom collection, a series of rugged performance jackets and pants created specifically for the remote places seldom seen by weekend warriors and in-bounds skiers. Jackets in Spyder's Freeryde Venom collection offer various degrees of taping and weather protection, and the Transfer is weatherproof but only the critical seams are typed. While few of us will ever readily know the difference between fully taped and critical seams taped, what this means is that the Transfer might get a little wet after a full day of freeriding in heavy sleet or torrential rain. The synthetic Thermosoft insulation is lighter than some of Spyder's other jackets (including the Rival) but the Transfer still offers great insulation, especially if you're one of those skiers who tends to skip the ultra-cold days where the frost instantly sticks to your jacket the moment you exit the warmth of the day lodge. Spyder retained their waterproof zipper construction on the Transfer and you'll never have to deal with water seeping in where the sleeves and vest meet--unless you never had the thing zipped up right in the first place. Other refinements include plenty of internal and external pockets, plus a new Fad powder skirt with snaps and gripper elastic.
