A lateral tongue post places more padding along the outside edge of the tongue, an innovation that lessens tongue drift and results in a better seal at the top of the boot to keep debris out. Also, the padding that surrounds the knobby inside and outside ankle bones is not placed at the exact same elevation as is common on other hiking boots. Instead each heel pad is placed independently of the other to match the precise location of each bone. For positive traction on muddy trails, scree slopes, and lingering snowfields, a Vibram® Ground Control outsole grips hard or soft surfaces, whether ascending, descending, or traversing. A polyurethane midsole offers lightweight, durable comfort, and the FrameFlex-Mid® insole provides a smooth, rounded flex that does not require break-in.
