Although most backpacks feature waterproof fabrics, they all have lots of seams and zippers where water has a tendency to work its way in. The Osprey UL Raincover (Medium) blocks this seepage with ultralight silicon impregnated ripstop nylon and fully taped seams.

Great cover! Just make sure to match the cover by your pack's liter size. I bought a large cover for a large pack, which was way too big.

Excellent covers! We bought four Osprey Atmos packs from Altrec. The Osprey covers are the best choice for the pack (IMO) and have a mid cover snap which goes around the entire pack, which helps keep the cover in place better than other covers.
