Description

Petzl: Myo Belt SB 5 Headlamp - Altrec.com Product Description:

Offering the best of both worlds, the Petzl Myo Belt SB 5 headlamp includes a xenon halogen bulb for shining a long, powerful beam and a set of five LEDs for long-lasting proximity lighting. Although the xenon halogen bulb burns the batteries down in four hours, it throws a beam of 295 feet. It's rare that you need a beam of this length but when you need it, it feels like a priceless tool. For the rest of the time, such as reading in the tent, walking down a well-traveled trail, or rigging a bear hang after dark, the five LEDs do the job more than adequately. Instead of slowly losing their brightness as the batteries wear down, the Petzl Myo Belt SB 5 headlamp regulates the lighting level so that it remains constant until the batteries are nearly exhausted. At that point this intelligent headlamp kicks into a reserve power mode that provides adequate proximity lighting for a greatly extended period of time. To further fine tune the lighting level and use the battery power as efficiently as possible, the Petzl Myo Belt SB 5 headlamp offers three levels of LED lighting, depending on whether you're cleaning trout long after sunset or trying to find your tent after descending from a climb in fading light. A remote battery pack keeps the weight of four AA batteries off the head and also allows for you to shelter the batteries underneath your clothing to preserve battery life in extreme cold. The lamp is water resistant and performs well in even the most awful weather.

  • Remote battery pack can be worn under clothing to protect from the elements and preserve battery life
  • Switches between a high-powered single xenon halogen bulb for long range lighting and a group of 5 LEDs for proximity lighting
  • 5 LEDs offer three lighting levels (optimal, maximal, and economy), regulated so that the lighting remains constant until the batteries are nearly exhausted
  • LEDs switch to a reserve power mode when batteries are nearly spent, providing extended adequate lighting
  • With full power the xenon halogen bulb shines a useable beam of 295 feet (90 m)
  • Overhead strap holds headlamp on head if power cable is pulled
  • Easy twist of bezel for on and off operation. Locks when not in use so it's unlikely to turn on when tossed in a pack
  • Water resistant for all-conditions use
  • Battery life of approximately 4 hours using the powerful xenon halogen bulb
  • Battery life of approximately 90 hours using the five LEDs in economy (low) mode
  • Operates with four AA batteries (included)
  • Spare 6 V xenon halogen bulb included
  • Weight: 8.7 oz. (256 g.)
  • Remote battery pack reduces weight worn on the head to 3.2 oz. (92 g.)

Overall a good Headlamp The LED's are awesome and with three settings you can find the one you want. The battery pack is small and light and can be placed neatly into a pocket. The major gripe I have with the light is the halogen bulb. Yes it produces a fairly bright beam that stretches out pretty far (not a 100meters though), but after have the bright white light from LED's, the halogen seems very dull. Compared to the Princeton Tec Apex with the 3watt led, the halogen is very dull. The halogen is comparable to a 1watt led. I love the focusing option for the halogen, but why they didn't put a super bright white led bulb in there is beyond me. The halogen just did not cut it for me and I returned it for the Princeton Tec Apex. I was really disappointed because I really liked the light it just didn't have that bright white light that I prefer. If that baby had a maxbright 3watt led in it, that headlamp would absolutely rock. Especially with the focus ability, (whcih the PT Apex lacks). Maybe Petzl will fix this. I hope so cause it is a great start for a headlamp.
