Description

Kelty: Redwing 3100 Backpack - Altrec.com Product Description:

Some of us on the staff will admit to the Kelty Redwing being our first pack--but that was back in the day when the Redwings had water bottle side pockets and you could pick any color--as long as it was red. This latest Redwing 3100 incarnation has an internal hydration reservoir and comes in an array of cool colors, although none of the exceptional trail versatility has changed. The Redwing is an ideal day pack for short hikes, climbing approaches and backcountry skiing, although a few minimalists have even stretched it out into an overnight pack with an ultralight bivy bag.

Best all around pack. This is the only smaller pack that I have found in recent years that fits tall people. I feel that it was designed for people over the six foot mark. The bag has just about the perfect combo of pockets. The side pockets are hard to get used to but they work great.

Great Traveling Pack This is a great size to travel with because if you don't stuff the front pocket, you can cram it in most plane overheads. Or you can at least get it to the plane and gate check on tiny planes. It is very rugged and durable. Everyone will pick it up by the top handle, but that is strong enough even when the pack is weighed down with heavy books and gear. The plastic clasps, the straps, and the zippers are all very durable. Mine has been back and forth to South America twice, thrown on top of buses, into boats, etc, and still looks new. The weird side pockets are great for last minute items you need to fit in. The 3100 is bigger than daypack size, but is good for long weekends. I'm 5'-9" and it fits comfortably. The only drawback, and it is significant, is that it does not have lockable zippers as older models did, just cord pulls. I solved this by adding wire cable pulls joined with crimping things on all the zippers.

Is this Handy? - Yes - No ( 3 of 3 found this review helpful.)
