The bare maximum for adventure racing. A hot weather design that cuts a sandal down to its skeleton while keeping the overall feel soft but supportive. The key component is a Kevlar® lacing system that runs narrow-gauge webbing onto a foam-padded injection-molded forefoot shield and anchors it directly into the dual density sole. The result is pressure-free, continuous self-adjustment of the sole to the foot for exceptional terrain sensitivity. Ultra-light Vibram® Vista Cinch™ sole puts traction torque lugs on the medial, power side and uses front-to-back channels and siping wet surface grip.

Molded arch hurts and straps allow misalignment on foot I only bought these because I could no longer find the Nike Air Deschutz running sandal. I've worn the Nikes for years in training and road racing in Florida , and love them. The Merrill, however, has a molded arch which is too high, too firm, and casues huge blisters on arch. An arch support is a difficult thing in a running shoe anyway, and largely unnecessary (as any podiatrist will echo). Moreover, the starps are allowed slippage on the Merrills between their anchor points, and thus allow my feet to misalign on the sole last oaver time as the foot plant through lift's twisting moves the straps instead of holding the last to the foot as the Nike sandals do. This is the same problem with the Bite Enerstrap sandals, and I don't know why running sandal designers keep this design around. Running shoes don't do that! Maybe its becasue these sandals aren't really designed for serious running, but I'm a 54 year old runner who has run for almost 40 years, was a 4 minute miler and 1:50 half miler and Cross Country runner also in the 70's, and I am in love with running in sandals instead of shoes now. If I could have run in sandls in my youth, I think I'd have had even more mileage, fewer injuries, and more toenails then also. The only comparable sandal I can now find to the Nike Air Deschutz is the Hi-Tech sandal, and I will be rally disappoited in Nike discontinues making the Air Deschutz.
