Most people classify energy-saving LED headlamps as a safer substitute for tent-bound candle lanterns, but Petzl's Myo® XP shines new light on nocturnal potential beyond the tent and campsite. It features a focused, high-power single LED light bulb with a special boost mode that illuminates up to 71 yards for twenty-second intervals. While boost mode is an energy-saving option (batteries can last up to 170 hours), it's a fairly practical feature when you think about how much time you spend looking at the ground directly in front of your feet while hiking or climbing in the pre-dawn and dusk hours. In addition to boost mode, the Petzl Myo® XP has three other lighting settings: Maximum, optimum and economy. Economy is perfect for tent reading and sorting pack gear while the maximum mode will help you spot objects almost 50 yards down the trail--depending on the color of your surrounding landscape (we found that wet basalt rock doesn't reflect much light). A wide angle lens, tilt lamp and superb water resistance are standard features. The battery life indicator reminds you when the batteries are at 30% capacity and 10% capacity and all switches are covered to avoid accidental shutoff. One of the most difficult caves in Romania I'm an addicted rock climber, caver and mountainbiker. I've used Myo XP for two difficult caves in Romania. Last time it survived after 5 hours of hard caving (3 km long underground river, swiming in 6 degrees Celsius water , several jumps in waterfalls - so it was submersed, mud etc). The light was very bright and I was able to see everything in the 40 m tall cave. The most amayzing thing it was that water entered in every single space of the lamp but it still worked with no problems. I would not recommend to abuse it in this way very often, but nevertheless this headlamp is even better than the producer states it is.

Myo XP - lighting the way. The Petzl Myo XP is a new design from Petzl. It takes three AA/LR6 type batteries, is water resistant, has three power settings (from a 1 watt LED) and a diffuser for widening the light emission. Even at it's medium setting, my Myo XP was making my friend's Princeton look like a toy. This is by far the brightest LED headlamp I've seen on the trail. It also has a BOOST mode which can be held for 20 seconds to increase the power output, for when you want to throw a spot on that dark patch of woods, or check out that deep cave. myo xp so great you would not change for anything less...it is so bright that you can travel comfortably even in the darkest night in your bicycle...just give it a try and you will love it...
