The goal at JanSport is to design and manufacture products to help you carry the stuff you need, where you need it, in the most functional, fashionable way possible. It’s what JanSport has been doing consistently for nearly forty years that continues to drive them today. Founded in Seattle, Washington in 1967 after winning a design contest for an aluminum flexible-frame backpack, many innovations have followed: 1970, the first paten on the panel loading design, 1971, the first dome tent, 1972, introduction of the first D-2 technical pack, 1975, introduced the classic daypack. The daypack is so much the quintessential standard, used by countless students to transport books and binders from home to school, that Jansport has never changed the basic design. With a tradition of testing equipment in grueling mountain conditions, Jansport has continually challenged gear on expeditions like the 1978 first American climb of K2, led by mountaineer Jim Whittaker. With a deep commitment to innovation and quality, steeped in mountaineering culture, Jansport celebrates all definitions of the �great outdoors�, from the wilderness, to recreational parks, and the city.
